Ellen MacLachlan
Associate Director of Network Evaluation

Ellen joined HVTN in May 2006 as a Clinical Trials Manager in the Scientific Support Unit. In January 2008 she was promoted to head the Evaluation Program at HVTN, which works to evaluate whether the network is efficiently meeting all of its intended goals. She has extensive international experience, mostly in Africa, which includes three years of service with the Peace Corps in Mali, West Africa and STI/HIV prevention work with CDC in Atlanta. She recently completed a PhD in Public Health with a dissertation concerning sexual risk behaviors of women in HIV treatment programs in Uganda.

Ellen and her family enjoy living in Seattle and being in the outdoors, especially kayaking and snowshoeing. Now that her dissertation is finished, she is looking forward to perfecting homemade pasta, traveling in the San Juan Islands and searching for the last affordable house in Seattle (that will take a while). Some of her favorite times are spent with her five-year-old son Max, and listening to his invention ideas, such as a sure-to-be-patented pogo stick that also plays rock music for you and feeds you candy at the same time.
