Eleanor Bell, PhD

Before joining HVTN, Eleanor served in a variety of leadership roles at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, most recently as Director, Strategy Planning & Management/Chief of Staff for the Chief Digital Officer. Prior to joining the Gates Foundation, Eleanor spent 8 years at Group Health Cooperative, a combined health care delivery system and insurance provider, rising to role of Executive Director, Enterprise Information Management. She partnered closely with front line physicians and care provider teams as well medical and administrative leadership to develop and implement systems for tracking and improvement performance, earning the Eileen J. O'Donnell Achievement Award for leadership resulting in “achievement of an extraordinary outcome on behalf of patients or staff.”  She has served as a clinical assistant professor in the University of Washington School of Public Health, teaching quantitative analysis and research methods in the MHA program, as well as on the faculty of Cornell University as an Assistant Professor in the department of Sociology. Eleanor earned her doctorate in Sociology and masters in Demography from University of California – Berkeley and is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College.
