Outside Collaborations and Ancillary Studies

Ancillary studies are investigations conducted in conjunction with an HVTN protocol. They may involve one or more HVTN and/or non-HVTN investigators. To protect the scientific integrity of HVTN and to ensure optimal use of study resources (including participants, questionnaires and specimens), all proposals undergo a series of reviews and approvals.

When a study proposed by a non-HVTN investigator is approved, an HVTN investigator is appointed to partner with the outside investigator to represent the study within the Network.

Are you writing an article using HVTN data? See our publications policy.

The HVTN partner assists in communication between the Network and the outside investigator to assures adherence to Network policies. All investigators seeking HVTN clinical trials specimens or data must complete the HVTN Ancillary Study Application. In addition, investigators must also complete and sign the HVTN Material Transfer Agreement.
