Do You Have an Idea for a Study You Would Like to Pursue at the HVTN?

The HVTN relies upon the collective wisdom and creativity of its investigators to pursue studies that will move us closer to finding an effective HIV preventive vaccine. As such, we welcome the ideas of our members regarding new concepts that are not currently being planned or pursued. We suggest the following steps you should take to determine if your concept is something that can be done at the HVTN:

1) Review the HVTN Scientific Agenda. Does your concept fit into or complement the agenda? How does the concept fit with current concepts being developed at the HVTN?

2) Speak to your site PI. You should have a full discussion of the rationale underlying the concept, how pursuit of it will address critical questions in the field, and how it will move the field forward.

3) Prepare a brief synopsis of the idea. Use the Scientific Idea Submission Form below to prepare a brief description of the project. The idea will receive an initial review by HVTN leadership to determine if it will be an ancillary study, sub-study, or new protocol. You will be contacted within two weeks of submission with further details.

4) Work with Core leadership. If further development is encouraged by HVTN leadership to create a new protocol, we will work with you to establish a Concept Team for moving the concept forward. Core leadership will also make sure that you will maintain involvement in the study as it moves forward. If development of an ancillary or sub-study is encouraged by leadership, we will work with you to complete the necessary applications and reviews.
