The HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) congratulates Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo on her appointment as the new National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) Director. Dr. Marrazzo brings a wealth of experience as a leader in HIV and STI prevention research, with a strong reputation for supporting interdisciplinary collaborative research and mentorship, and the HVTN looks forward to continuing its work with her leadership. Following in the steps of the world-renowned Dr. Anthony Fauci, she will lead NIAID’s research portfolio advancing the science of prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, including HIV vaccines and broadly neutralizing antibodies, as well as TB vaccines. Dr. Marrazzo hails from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she served as Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Marrazzo completed her infectious disease fellowship at the University of Washington, where she also served as a faculty member before accepting her role at UAB.

“We are delighted at Jeanne’s appointment as NIAID Director and know she will continue to bring her innovative thinking and tireless work in public service to continue the legendary history of NIAID in improving our nation’s health.”
